Privacy Policy
Effective October 10, 2026
Lasts is an iPhone app for tracking expiration dates. It is built so that we, the developer, never receive your data. There is no Lasts account, no Lasts server, no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking.
Short version
- Your items, dates, notes, and photos are stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database.
- We cannot see, access, or recover anything you store in Lasts.
- Reading names and dates from your photos happens on your device.
- We do not sell, share, or collect your data. The only company involved is Apple, which provides iCloud and the App Store.
Information the app stores
When you use Lasts, the app stores the following, only so the app can work:
- Items: the product name you enter or confirm, the expiration date and its label (for example “Best by”), any notes you add, and whether the item is active, used, or discarded.
- Photos: the front-of-package photo and the date close-up you take with the camera, or a photo you choose from your library.
- Reminder details: which days before expiration you want reminders, and when a reminder was last sent.
- Settings: your preferences, such as appearance, reminder schedule, weekly digest, date format, duplicate checking, and auto-delete.
Lasts does not ask for or store your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, or any advertising identifier.
How the information is used
Your information is used only to provide the app’s features: showing your list, reading dates from photos, scheduling reminders, showing widgets, responding to Siri and Shortcuts, and syncing between your devices. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or analytics.
On-device processing
When you capture an item, Lasts reads the product name and expiration date from your photos using Apple’s on-device text recognition and Apple’s built-in on-device language model. Your photos are not sent to us or to any third-party service for this.
Storage and iCloud sync
- On your device: items and photos are stored in the app’s storage on your iPhone. A small summary (such as upcoming item names and dates) is shared with the Lasts widget on the same device so it can display them.
- Your private iCloud: if you are signed in to iCloud, Lasts syncs your items and photos to the app’s private database in your iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit. Data in a private iCloud database belongs to your Apple Account. We, the developer, cannot view or access it. It counts toward your iCloud storage.
- Settings sync: your Lasts settings are synced through iCloud key-value storage in your own iCloud account.
- If you are not signed in to iCloud, your items stay only on that device.
iCloud is operated by Apple and is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Notifications
Expiration reminders and the optional weekly digest are scheduled locally on your device by the app. They are not sent from a Lasts server. Notifications and widgets can show item names on your Lock Screen or Home Screen, depending on your iOS settings.
Purchases
Lasts Premium is sold through Apple’s App Store using Apple’s StoreKit. Apple processes your payment. We do not receive your payment details, and the app only checks with Apple whether you own Premium. We receive standard, aggregated sales reports from Apple, which do not identify you to us.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your information. Lasts contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. Apple provides iCloud, the App Store, notifications, and Siri, and handles that data under its own privacy policy. If you choose to share crash reports or app analytics with developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may provide us anonymous diagnostic reports.
Permissions
- Camera: to photograph the product front and its expiration date.
- Photos: only the photo you pick, through Apple’s photo picker.
- Notifications: to remind you before items expire.
You can change these at any time in the iOS Settings app.
Children
Lasts is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13, because the app does not send any personal information to us.
Deleting your data
- One item: delete it in the app. The deletion also syncs to your other devices and to your private iCloud.
- Automatically: turn on Auto-delete in Lasts Settings to remove expired, used, or discarded items after a number of days you choose.
- Everything in iCloud: on your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then manage your storage, choose Lasts, and delete its data. Exact wording varies by iOS version.
- Everything on a device: delete the Lasts app. If iCloud sync is on, your items remain in your iCloud until you delete them there.
Because we never receive your data, we cannot delete, export, or recover it for you. You are always in control of it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above.
